Alabama, a 27-11 winner at then-No.20 Penn State, held on to the No. 2 ranking but got eight firsts, one fewer than a week ago.
The remaining seven No. 1 nods again went to third-ranked LSU.
There was a change at No. 4. Boise State, which was a point behind Florida State last week, finished three points ahead of the Seminoles when the votes were counted this time.
Penn State fell out of the poll along with Missouri, which lost in overtime Friday night at No. 18 Arizona State.
Mississippi State held on at No. 25 after losing on a goal-line stop at No. 19 Auburn.
No. 22 South Florida and No. 24 Baylor debut in the coaches poll.
Michigan's thrilling finish against Notre Dame, meanwhile, wasn't quite enough to get the Wolverines into the top 25.

New NFL Kickoff Rule
The NFL, citing safety concerns, is instituting a new rule that has moved the kickoff line up 5 yards to the 35-yard line, there is an additional risk for returners beyond typical hazards that include coverage men targeting them on seek-and-destroy missions.
This new rule has so far resulted in more touchbacks in the preseason games this year. During the 2011 preseason, 39.3% of kickoffs resulted in touchbacks, compared to a 18.3% clip during the 2010 preseason. During the 2010 regular season, the rate was 17% .

Manning Will Not Be In Houston For The Season Opener
Indianapolis Colts QB Manning won't play Sunday in the season opener against the Houston Texans, ending his streak of 227 consecutive starts including the playoffs. But for the previous three days, coach Jim Caldwell hadn't said whether Manning would travel with the team. Manning has had three surgical procedures on his neck in the past 19 months.
When Manning hasn't played in the past, he has usually stood on the sideline and occasionally wore a headset to help with play-calling.
